The Journey can be hard - but it’s worth it & its better when you don’t go it alone.

Hi! My name is Jonathan. I’m a lot of things. I’m a father and a husband. I’m a pastor and leader. I’ve worked as a writer and speaker…and even as a tennis coach and in a garage. I’ve been the senior pastor of large congregations and I’ve helped start house churches. I’ve changed oil and replaced wiper blades and I’ve taught four year olds to hit a tennis ball. I’ve worked in addiction recovery and mental health care….and, I’ve been an alcoholic in active addiction who is now enjoying long term sustained sobriety.

Now let me throw a big word at you, liminal time. How’s that for an SAT word? In short, liminal time derives from the Latin meaning threshold - referring to that transition area from inside a house to outside; from one room to the next.

I’ve come to believe that almost all of life is lived in these transitions. Often we want to run through them rather than dwell in them. Its uncomfortable to be there, in the threshold space. But it is the space of tremendous growth when we’ve left behind what was and are on our way towards what is not yet.

Throughout my own growth I’ve come to understand this threshold space as one where the hero’s journey is lived out. Joseph Campbell popularized this idea and it can be seen throughout the stories of Scripture, in ancient mythology, and even the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, Star Wars, and the recent Marvel movies. In short this journey consists of a call to adventure, and time of challenge, and a return as one transformed.

I’d love to chat with you about how this framework can help support you on whatever transformative journey you find yourself on. Send me a message and I’d love to set up a free 30 minute consolation to explore how I can help!
